An Outdoor Classroom will make its debut at Ridgedale Middle School in Spring 2024! On December 8th, the FPEF presented to Dr. Caponegro a check to fund the first phase of this exciting initiative.

A special thank you to Wiss for kicking off the fundraising effort with a matching donation and to the Madison YMCA for bringing us over the finish line.

Our gratitude to all who donated.

An outdoor classroom provides a dedicated space to combine the targeted teaching of a traditional classroom with the immersive and interactive natural spaces outside of a school building. The makeup of the outdoor classroom tables promotes social interaction and collaboration between the students and the project at hand. The student body can also paint the tables each year to promote comradery and school spirit.

Students will work together in partnership with staff on the landscape design. Trees, shrubs, and plants will be added as the space evolves from year to year.

Features:

  • Outdoor easels

  • Paintable tables - a yearly student-body collaboration

  • Moveable tables to form different layouts

  • Planters

  • Introduction to landscape design

  • Understanding of growth - kids will see the space change each year

Florham Park School District Administrators envision an outdoor classroom that provides a dedicated space that combines the targeted teaching of a traditional classroom with the immersive and interactive natural spaces outside of a school building.

Thank you!

Matching Donation: Community partner, Wiss, will match every dollar, up to $1,000.
